Jürgen Schick hat dieses „Suche Jati“ – Projekt Ende Dezember 2006 gestartet.

jati # 1 (1965 – 1st Edition)

„Thank you for allowing my „silent“ entry.  I got my Jati set in the mid-to-late 90s in a thrift shop in Canandaigua, New York, for 99 cents.  My hands were trembling as I pulled it from the shelf!  It is in excellent condition and absolutely complete, including even the survey card asking for the owner’s opinion of the game.  According to your typology, my copy is is the second edition, as I distinctly remember the boards having receptacles at both ends to hold the tiles when they aren’t in play.  Soon after I got my set, I played it three times, each with a different games collector (George Petry, Bruce Whitehill, Clark King, all from the Rochester area).  We all thought it lacked in originality, but had depth and elegance.  I have all the 3M bookshelf and flatpack games in some edition or other, and about 1,400 other games of all types, both proprietary and traditional, as well as about 1,200 books on games and puzzles.  Most are in climate-controlled storage in Rochester, New York, awaiting my having enough space to transfer them to San Diego, California, where I work as editor, etc., for an anthropological museum.  (My doctorate is a secular degree in philosophy of religion.)  I have written on games for thirteen years for the Association of Game and Puzzle Collectors, and some of my work on Indian Pachisi and American Parcheesi was summarized in David Parlett’s Oxford History of Board Games.

So good to see your informative web site.  I look forward to learning more from you about the obscure hisory of Jati.  Kind regards, Wayne“  (13th january 2007)

Inside this Jati was the article about the Gamedesigner Keith Havens.
With these information we found out that „Keith Havens“ is the designer of jati,

„It is the second edition from 1966, with the 9×10 game board.

I’ve been playing board games for years, but only recently have I begun to grow my collection. Many of my games are purchased at second hand stores. It was at one of these store that I found Jati, and I was able to purchase it for $5.95. There must be a higher probability that someone could find Jati around here. I live in Minnesota, which is the home state of 3M.“

Paul Spreitzer is collecting 3M games on and off for almost 20 years now, ever since he moved  from Chicago up to St. Paul, Minnesota. He bought his first Jati probably 15 years ago at an antique store (for $8.00), and his second just this summer when a good friend was cleaning out his collection.
Both games are the 2nd edition.

Alain Boudreault from Montréal, Québec in Canada has this 1966 2nd Edition in pretty good shape.

It was found by a BoardgameGeek user, in a Minnesota?s thrift store, December 2012. He wrote him ASAP to ask how much he wanted for it. 600$ US was the answer ? he passed. He was finally able to buy it for much less on EBay a couple of days later?

Now he just need to find a copy of the first edition.
